Only 2% of Women Hit This Milestone—But You’re Not Here to Blend In
Did you know that only 2% of women-owned businesses ever hit the million-dollar mark? Let that sink in.
Not because women aren’t capable. Not because we don’t work hard enough. But because most of us were never taught how to lead, build wealth, or structure a business that doesn’t run us into the ground. And that’s exactly why we’re doing it differently.
As women in business—whether you run your own company or lead inside someone else’s—we’re not just building brands. We’re rewriting the rules. And sometimes that means leading in a way that looks nothing like what we were taught.
I became a leader before I felt ready…
I stepped into a leadership role at 24 years old, running operations for a mental health company. I was overseeing multiple programs, managing people twice my age—many of them men—and trying to prove I belonged in the room. I said yes to everything. I carried it all. I was the go-to for every problem. I thought if I was helpful enough, available enough, agreeable enough… I’d earn the respect I desperately wanted.
But here’s what I learned: Respect doesn’t come from overworking, overgiving, or doing it all. It comes from respecting yourself first. From trusting your voice. Owning your decisions. Setting boundaries, even when it’s uncomfortable. And believing that you’re allowed to take up space.
There was a time I was passed over for a promotion. I was told I “needed more time.” I could’ve internalized that. I could’ve shrunk. Instead, I decided to become the leader I was waiting for someone to choose. I showed up differently. I led in the rooms I had access to. I stopped asking for permission and started showing up like the woman I knew I could be.
If you’re in that place right now—where you know you’re capable, but you’re still waiting for someone to validate it—let this be your sign: You don’t have to wait. You can lead right now.
Now, years later—I’m not just a business owner. I’m also a mom of three. And I’ll be honest with you… balancing being a high-achieving, ambitious woman and being the kind of mother I want to be has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to navigate. There was a time I felt like I had to choose. Like I had to tone down my ambition to be a “present” mom. Or that I couldn’t be fully in on motherhood without sacrificing something professionally.
But I made a decision: I refuse to believe I have to choose. Do I believe in perfect balance? No. I believe in seasons. Some seasons require more of me at home. Some ask more of me in business. Some are for rest. Some are for growth. They don’t compete—they harmonize. But only when I stopped trying to be everything to everyone.
That meant letting go of this outdated belief that if I didn’t do it all myself, I was failing—as a mom, as a CEO, as a woman. That meant asking for help. Letting others in. Accepting that not being the only one who does it all doesn’t make me less—it makes me stronger.
We’ve been conditioned to believe that leadership is loud. That it looks a certain way. That we have to fit into a mold to be respected. But real leadership is personal. It’s honest. It’s resilient. It’s setting boundaries with grace. It’s making space for your growth. It’s raising your hand before you feel fully ready—and showing up anyway.
You don’t need to be more like them. You just need to be more of you—the version of you who knows she was made for more, even if it feels scary to claim it.
To the woman reading this…
If you’ve been second-guessing yourself…If you’ve been carrying the weight of “doing it all” while still feeling like it’s not enough…If you’ve been waiting for someone to give you permission…
This is it.
You don’t have to earn your right to lead. You already have it. Respect yourself first—and others will follow your lead. Whether you’re building your own business or leading someone else’s, you belong here. We are not waiting for seats anymore. We’re building our own table. And I hope you take your place at it.
